A concert of Remembrance and Reconciliation, involving around 400 performers, will be held in Walsall's St Matthew’s Parish Church on the afternoon of the centenary day itself – November 11.

Peter Morris, Walsall's borough organist, chair of Wolverhampton's City Music Hub and conductor of Wolverhampton Symphony Orchestra, said: “I suggested to some choirs that they might wish to be involved and I was amazed by their willingness to participate.

“Two German Choirs agreed immediately - the choirs of Jena University and a choir from Dortmund; a French choir from Brittany are sending a group of singers and local choral societies and choirs are also busily rehearsing the music.”

These include: Wolverhampton Chamber Choir; City of Wolverhampton Choir; Walsall Choral Society; Wombourne Choral Society; Wolverhampton University Choir; Dudley Choral Society; Sutton Coldfield Society; St Peter's Collegiate Church Girls' Choir, Wolverhampton.

Mr Morris continued: “They will all be singing in a massive performance of Fauré's Requiem and Beethoven's 9th Symphony. Both are iconic pieces for such an occasion.

“With the Wolverhampton Symphony Orchestra, 11 choirs and five vocal soloists - three English and two German - it should be a massive and exciting event.”

The event kicks off at 3pm on November 11. Tickets are £10, or £8 on the balcony. For more information and to purchase them, click here.
