Aldridge Musical Comedy Society are still 'Fabulous at 50'
A group which has been treading the boards and making audiences howl with laughter for half a century has celebrated its 50th year in style.
The Aldridge Musical Comedy Society (AMCS) opened with Calamity Jane on April 27, 1967, and have been rocking the stage ever since.
Last week they brought their anniversary show Fabulous at 50 to the Prince of Wales Theatre in Cannock.
The production delivers a mix of great vocal performances, breathtaking dance routines and of course good humour. It features numbers from Les Misérables, Oklahoma, All Shook Up, Oliver, Rent and many more.
Choreography has been led by Sarah Hemming and Mark Bayliss is behind musical direction.
While society chairperson Julie Lamb has directed the landmark show.
She said: "I’m so proud to be celebrating the 50th anniversary of AMCS and feel very honoured to be directing such a talented group of people on this special occasion."
Society president Paula Garratt, who appeared in the group's first production, is also making a welcome return to the stage.
She said: "When I started with AMCS 50 years ago I never thought I would be lucky enough to join this great company on stage in celebration of those 50 years. I am very proud of everyone associated with the society."
AMCS has a core of 30 members and are always on the lookout for more performers of all ages.
They rehearse in Aldridge on a Wednesday and as well as producing two shows a year they also perform at charity functions and care homes.
The next to extravaganzas will be Smokey Joe's Cafe in November and West Side Story in May next year.
Fabulous at 50 is on tonight (Friday) and tomorrow (Saturday) starting at 7.30pm.
Tickets cost £12 for adults, £10 for concessions and £8 for under 16s.
They can be purchased by calling the society on 01543 480 626 or the theatre box office on 01543 578 762.
