The Silent Child will be premiering on television on BBC 1 at 7.45pm on Good Friday, March 30, it has been revealed.

Former Kingsmead School pupil and Wolves fan Chris, from Heath Hayes and fiancée Rachel Shenton triumphed at the Academy Awards in Hollywood with their live action short film The Silent Child.

Chris's parents Andy and Lynne, who raised £1,000 selling cupcakes to help crowdfund the film, were also there to see his success and that of Rachel, from Stoke-on-Trent.

The former Hollyoaks stars, best known for playing Mitzeee Minniver and Liam McAllister in the Channel 4 show, hope to develop their film – which tells the story of 4-year-old deaf girl Libby living in a world of silence – into a feature-length production.

Collecting the prize, Rachel delivered her speech in sign language for the film's now seven-year-old star Maisie Sly, who is deaf, in front of tens of millions of people watching across the world.

Rachel's late father became deaf when she was very young, and she has been tirelessly campaigning to get sign language into schools and break down the communication barriers deaf children face.
