Lichfield Proms returns for 19th show

From food to music, Lichfield has been offering non-stop summer entertainment over the past couple of weeks.

Lichfield Proms is next on the agenda at Beacon Park on September 2, following the success of the Lichfield Food Festival last weekend.

The annual outdoor concert has brought people together fto enjoy music and food for 18 years.

For their 19th year British Police Symphony Orchestra will be headlining at 7.30pm with music from Madame Butterfly, Romeo and Juliet, along with Dances with Wolves.

The 75-piece orchestra will be conducted by Richard Jenkinson who will be joined by compere, Danny Mizon.

Leading up to that, movie-lovers will be happy to hear The City of Lichfield Concert Band will be performing film favourites including songs from Beauty and the Beast, How to Train Your Dragon, a Disneyland celebration, a James Bond medley and many more popular classics.

There will also be performances from singers Claire Prewer, Jane Stevenson and Nick Pilborough.

It is a free event run by Lichfield District Council that will end with a firework display. It has previously attracted 10,000 vsitiors from across the county

Fun for the children will begin from 5.30pm and includes fairground rides and inflatables. Local businesses have the chance to hold a food stall.

Richard Jenkinson, Music Director & Conductor of the British Police Symphony Orchestra, said: “Our line-up includes something for everyone, combining popular film and TV music, with lesser known pieces that I know the audience will love. A highlight for me is the beautiful Mozart duet from The Marriage of Figaro, which featured in film, Shawshank Redemption.”

Councillor Iain Eadie, Lichfield District Council’s Cabinet Member for Leisure, said: “With top class music, picnicking under the stars in the beautiful surroundings of Beacon Park, and plenty of community cheer, our nineteenth Lichfield Proms in Beacon Park promises to be a fantastic event for the whole family.”

They launched the event back in July when their many sponsors.
