Baby boom at Halfpenny Green’s Wild Zoological Park
There’s been a baby boom at a zoo which has welcomed an array of exotic new arrivals.
Halfpenny Green’s Wild Zoological Park has welcomed a total of five baby crocodiles, two endangered scarlet macaws and two baby emus.
Staff at the zoo have found they have become surrogate parents to the emus that have taken to following them around, thinking they are their parents. Not only this, but the zoo has also launched its new free flight bird show featuring free flying parrots, eagles, owls and vultures as well as its new marabou storks with a massive 12-foot wingspan.
Zach Hollinghead, who runs the park, said: “I think it’s great to bring people up close and personal to not just adult animals but babies as well.
“People have a real soft spot for the babies and so we’re very pleased to have them here.
“The baby macaws are called Molly and Isla and they are endangered scarlet macaws soon to be free flying in our wild wings bird show.” The baby crocodiles have not yet been named, and staff are running a Facebook competition to name them.
Zach added: “The emus are Ellie and Bumble and they are six and eight weeks old and share our walkthrough Australian enclosure with our wallabies so people can get very close.”
