DIY SOS star Nick Knowles has said he is “convinced” he will continue to perform on Strictly Come Dancing despite suffering a shoulder and arm injury.

The 62-year-old said in a post on Instagram that he had suffered the injury while changing a tyre on his car “as quickly as I possibly could” at the side of the motorway.

It came after Knowles jived to We Built This City by Starship with professional dancer Luba Mushtuk on the first live episode of the BBC dancing show’s 20th anniversary series.

In the post, Knowles said: “Good morning, I thought I’d give a little update, as you can see, my arm is in a sling, and that’s because at the weekend my car broke down at the side of the motorway.

“I had my little boy in the car, so I wanted to change the tyre as quickly as I possibly could to make sure we were safe, and in the process of hurrying to get the wheel off as quickly as I possibly could, as it was a big wheel on my big car, I managed to damage my shoulder and arm a little bit.

“I’m not quite sure how or what, but it’s been quite painful, although a little better this morning.

“So I’m on my way up to London to Harley Street, to get a scan done and to get some top medical advice, but I am heading to training afterwards so I can learn the steps of my next dance.

“I’ll see you on It Takes Two a bit later today, where hopefully I’ll have more information and be able to update you, but I’ll keep you posted during the course of the day anyway.

“Not ideal, but I’m convinced (it’s) not something that’s going to stop me dancing this weekend.”

Judge Anton Du Beke described his dancing on Saturday night as “uplifting” and added he felt “elated” after watching the performance, which scored 18 points.

Knowles was then given a cake by professional dancer Carlos Gu, who appeared in hi-vis gear and a builder’s hat.

It Takes Two will air on BBC Two at 6.30pm on Monday and the next episode of Strictly Come Dancing will be broadcast at 6.15pm on BBC One on Saturday.
