He launched an online appeal following the loss of his cherry red 2013 Gibson guitar, which had a custom The Damned rod cover.

He revealed that it was taken in Tipton on Saturday night.

It had been feared the instrument, which was one of only two of its kind with his modifications, had been lost forever but there was a happy ending for the star, best known for his hit Happy Talk, as he was reunited with the prized guitar.

The Facebook appeal was shared more than 1,500 times as fans helped to try and get it back.

And it was revealed yesterday that the guitar had been returned.

Captain Sensible had posted on Facebook: “The bad news is my beloved stage guitar has been stolen. I do have others but not customised and ready to gig like this baby. So if anyone spots it please get straight back to us - thanks!”

The post continued: “This isn’t a particularly expensive model, and the surgery required to fit the bridge has probably made it worth a lot less, however there will be a reward for its return.”

The star, whose real name is Raymond Burns, rose to fame as a member The Damned in the late 1970s.
