Children at Longlands Primary School, Market Drayton, decorated more than 200 biscuits.

A competition has been launched to find the best bakers, jam makers, pastry cooks and gingerbread decorators of Market Drayton, as part of town's Ginger and Spice Festival.

Once completed, the decorated biscuits will be entered into the children’s 'best of category' and judged by Jana Jacobson, last year’s winner in the adult category, and Val Stones of the Great British Bake Off on Saturday.

Image on Food, a local gingerbread manufacturer, donated the hundreds of biscuits ready for the children to decorate.

Sarah Hopcroft of Image on Food said: "After the success of last year’s Ginger and Spice Festival and gingerbread baking contest, we decided that we would love to donate our gingerbread biscuits to this wonderful event to give the smaller children a chance to decorate and show case their talent.

"We can’t wait to see what the people of Market Drayton have to offer this year."

The competition is sponsored and organised by members of Market Drayton Country Markets who are located in the covered market every Wednesday and Saturday.

Entrants must take their bakes and makes to the covered market by noon on September 29.

The winners will be announced and prizes given at 2pm on that day.
