WATCH: Willenhall schoolboy pens tribute to NHS
A musical tribute to the NHS has been performed by a Willenhall schoolboy.
Ben Wilkinson wrote the music and lyrics and performed all instruments for the NHS Song, a song thanking all the key workers and staff who work for the NHS.
Nine-year-old Ben suffers from autism and obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD), but has been able to use his love for music to help express himself.
His mother Clare said he struggled with the social side of his life at Short Heath Junior School in Willenhall, but the guitar and keyboard lessons from Rocksteady Music School had really helped him.
She said: "The school couldn't believe he was doing concerts every term and for him to stand up in front of 200 children and perform is amazing for him.
"Since the lock down began, he bought himself an iMac, which he saved for, and he's started producing music on Garage Band, with the NHS song being one of them."
Clare described the song as "heart-wrenching" and said it made her feel warm inside as a proud mum.
Ben said: "I'm really happy with the song because I get to say thank you to everyday support people who work for the NHS."
Clare also said Ben could be an inspiration to other people to be creative, particularly people with autism.
She said: "He released a second song all about autism, which had a message of 'If you had autism, you are not alone'.
"He's said that he has got OCD, but it hasn't stopped him from doing something he enjoys and it hasn't put a stop to me."
