Treat as classical musician makes home town return to Bridgnorth
A double bass player will be putting on an unmissable performance in his home town in the coming weeks.
Patrick Phillip has performed live at many top venues around the UK, including the BBC Proms at the Albert Hall at the age of 16. But he is now returning to his roots as he gets set to perform at St Mary Magdalene Church, Bridgnorth, on September 8.
Patrick, who is a member of the CBSO Youth Orchestra based in Birmingham, first picked up a double bass aged 10, and instantly became hooked.
“I was always attracted to the double bass from an early age,” explained Patrick. “Initially, just the sheer size of it – this big, imposing instrument in the orchestra and its deep rich sound made me want to play it.
“I love the instrument’s versatility. Although commonly recognised for its orchestral role, it’s surprisingly charming and lyrical as a solo instrument.”
He attended John’s Catholic Primary School and Bridgnorth Endowed School, before going on to study at Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London. Patrick is an experienced soloist and he has performed at several recitals, including the Dittersdorf Double Bass Concerto No. 2 with the Bridgnorth Sinfonia in June 2014.
He was also a semi finalist in the Gregynog Young Musician Competition in 2015.
St Mary Magdalene Church is one of the first venues where Patrick performed solo, and therefore holds many fond memories.
