Wolverhampton unsigned artist Eileen Quigley releasing debut EP
Wolverhampton-based songwriter Eileen Quigley has announced she will release her debut EP on May 25.
Entitled Jumpers For Goalposts, the release features four tracks that mix personal experience, observation, and social commentary.
For example, The Philosopher and Ska Band was inspired by the 2013 Clutha Vaults tragedy, which saw 10 tragically die after a helicopter crashed into a Glaswegian pub, while Artificial Flowers uses the lifespan of a bouquet of flowers to explore today’s world.
Soundtrack Of Life reflects on the need for positivity in the face of life’s ups and downs. And the EP’s title track sees Eileen recalling the carefree days of her childhood.
“I grew up in a tenement about a mile from Hampden Park football ground, and if there was a match on at Hampden you could stand on the veranda and hear the crowd roar,” she said of her upbringing in Glasgow. “I also loved playing football as a youngster, and how you make your own entertainment.”
Born in the Gorbals, Glasgow, Eileen relocated to the West Midlands in the 90s, and the local music scene has played a big influence on her musical direction.
Her debut EP was recorded at the studio of West Midlands-based singer/songwriter Dan Whitehouse (Reveal Records), after she impressed Dan with her acoustic songs while attending his Songwriting Circle workshops in Birmingham's MAC theatre.
It is the same circle that produced former The Ticket Unsigned page star Danielle Cawdell, based in Cradley Heath, who appeared back in March.
The tracks feature guest contributions from multi-instrumentalist Dan and Uilleann pipes player Max Gittings, from band The Destroyers.
It will be available via CD, download and streaming services from May 25.
