The socially distanced cinema, run by Hednesford Town Council, is part of a range of events to be delivered by the council as part of their post-lockdown town centre recovery plans.

The three-day event to be held in Hednesford Park will be showing the men’s and women’s Wimbledon finals and a selection of films from July 9 to 11.

Film titles will likely include Grease, Dirty Dancing, Rocketman, A Star Is Born, The Lion King and Sonic.

Michelle Baker, town regeneration manager for Hednesford Town Council, said: “Other towns and cities have held open air cinemas and we want to show that it is possible here in Hednesford too, with the correct precautions in place. We hope that the community enjoy the new event so that this can become an annual fixture in the local events calendar."

Councillor Kathryn Downs, chairwoman of Hednesford Town Council said: “The Open Air Cinema is a great addition to Hednesford and we hope that the community take full advantage of the event and enjoy socialising safely. We have a fantastic line-up of films for visitors, with deck chairs and a large sunny space which will allow visitors to enjoy themselves and have fun in a safe environment.”

All the film viewings will take place in line with government guidelines for social distancing.

Tickets will go on sale next month. Follow the Visit Hednesford Facebook page for details.
