Royal wedding fever: Find out where celebrations are taking place in the Midlands today

Prince Harry and his bride-to-be Meghan Markle will say ‘I do’ today in St George’s Chapel.

And across the West Midlands and Staffordshire, eager royalists have been going mad for what must be regarded as ‘wedding of the year’.

• Brownhills mother Lara Mason has baked a life-size cake (using 300 eggs) of the prince and his beau, which could serve an incredible 500 people.

• Baby Blues charity shop in Victoria Street, Wolverhampton has been stunning passers-by with its celebratory royal-themed window, featuring huge cut-outs of Harry and Meghan, and also mannequins dressed up as the Queen, Prince Philip, Charles, Camilla, Will and Kate.

• Wyre Forest charity Kemp Hospice sent a wedding present of a special ceramic butterfly made by children at the bereavement service.

And that’s just for starters. Today there will be an abundance of street parties and hotel bonanzas to help celebrate.

So if you don’t fancy hopping on the train to the capital to wave at the bride and groom in Windsor, there are a host of other celebratory events.

• If you’re thinking of a first class celebration, Ramada Park Hall Hotel in Park Avenue, Wolverhampton, is holding a Royal Wedding Garden Party from 11am to 4pm. Visitors will be greeted with a red carpet welcome, arrival drinks and canapés, followed by a luxury buffet and a glass of fizz. Guests can also watch the special day on the big screen. Tickets are £40 and can be bought from 01902 349549.

• For something a bit more budget-friendly, The Mount Hotel and Conference Centre in Mount Road is hosting a similar party from 11am to 7pm. Again, there will be a live screening of the wedding with food, entertainment and pop-up-bars. Admission is just £6 including a glass of fizz to toast. Or for a reserved table of four, the price is £39.95 and includes a bottle. The minimum age is 16.

• And residents who live in one road in Penn have all chipped in to ensure they organise a celebration not to be forgotten. There will be maypole dancing, music, egg and spoon races, face painting, and tables of paella, Indian snacks, burgers and jerk chicken. At 5pm locals will be lining up at the top of the hill to race to catch a flag bearing the Queen’s face.

• In the Walsall area, there will be a royal tea party at The Bell in Willenhall town centre from 11am to 3pm, with tea and cupcakes, a live wedding broadcast, and all set in a traditional street party layout in the old courtyard.

• There will be a street party in Lichfield, on Tamworth Road, today from 9am to 6pm.

• Or head to Moor Hall Hotel and Spa for a royal afternoon tea on the day, while also enjoying the wedding live on the big screen. There will be Prosecco, sandwiches, scones and cakes at the event in the Oak Room restaurant. Arrival is from 11am and tickets cost £29.95 per person.

• In Dudley, there’s just one street party – in Manderston Close on the Milking Bank estate, running all day.
