The popular attraction welcomed guests back from August 3, with new social distancing measures in place on site.

Jane Lamine, business operations manager, said: "We have reopened with our normal opening hours but with a reduced number of people on site. It has been very quiet during the first week, we have not had the numbers we anticipated.

"During lockdown we have changed some of the galleries around with new exhibitions, we have also cleared the Lehr tunnel. It is the only one left in the UK and Europe, so we have cleaned it up and people can see right through it now, when they never could before.

"We also have a Augmented Reality App which visitors can use to bring some of the panels around the site to life. Some of them have videos, others have animation. It tells the story of glass blowing from start to finish.

"We have restocked our shop so everything is new. As part of the council, we are not doing any events or craft events at the moment. But the studios are running one-to-one sessions. The cafe is also open.

"But the response from visitors so far has been fantastic and people are really pleased we have reopened. We have had lots of lovely comments about the work we have done.

"People are looking forward to us doing more events when we can again. We have also had a few new customers who have never been before and while walking along the canal during lockdown, they saw us working and are now coming to have a look."
