It had been hoped the three-day event which attracts real ale fans from all over the country would be able to take place from November 26 to 28 in Dudley Town Hall despite the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

Organiser Karl Denning from the Dudley and South Staffordshire branch of the Campaign for Real Ale said:"It is with a heavy heart that the committee and organiser of DWAF 2020 have needed to cancel the Dudley Beer Festival.

"This is wholly due to the on going Covid-19 regulations and the need for social distancing. We have a duty of care to our customers, volunteers, Dudley Council staff and the wider public to help prevent the spread of the virus. The decision was not taken lightly and after consulting with both DMBC and Camra the decision was made to cancel this year’s event.

"It is only the second time that DWAF has been cancelled in its history, the other being because of foot and mouth disease."

Mr Denning said the committee and branch was urging Camra members and people who normally attended the beer festival to support local pubs and breweries if it was safe to do so.

"The committee is committed to running a beer festival in Dudley and virus permitting we hope to see everyone for DWAF 2021," he added
