Black Country restaurant offers discount to help keyworkers
A Black Country restaurant has demonstrated its generosity through a special discount for frontline emergency workers
Pan-Asian restaurant and takeaway Chop & Wok has provided keyworkers, including NHS workers, police and the fire service, with more than £10,000 worth of discounts during the coronavirus pandemic.
Chop & Wok started offering the 50 percent discount from the restaurant in Chapel Ash in Wolverhampton in April as part of its #ThankYouKeyworkers online campaign.
Manager Sunjay Patel said the idea for the discount had come after reading about keyworkers struggling to buy shopping because of empty shelves.
He said: "When we started seeing the news about NHS staff and key workers working long shifts and not being able to get any shopping, we decided to do something to play our part and help the community.
"We had a brainstorming session and decided that a 50 percent discount was the right thing to do to help people."
The 31-year-old from Wolverhampton said it had been a very rewarding experience to offer this service during lockdown.
He said: "It really makes me proud to be able to do this and pay thanks to everyone at the NHS, police, fire and all keyworkers as we appreciate everything they are doing for the country.
"We'll keep doing this service for as long as it's needed, playing it by ear and seeing if anything like another lockdown happens.
"It's a real privilege that we've been able to stay open and make a difference by doing this service and I'm really glad that people have been able to take advantage of it."
The discount can be claimed by any frontline worker by ordering online and entering the discount code KYWRK50, with proof of ID required on delivery.
