Formed as an art collective in 1976 the Mekons are one of the country's longest-running and prolific punk bands.

However, they have never been afraid to change their style as times change. Their back catalogue includes aspects of country music, folk music, alternative rock and occasional experiments with dub.

And they have a brand new album to go with their latest tour - Horror, their first release on Fire Records.

A Fire Records spokesman said: "Horror’ provides a horribly prescient reflection of the world in its current miasma and how we got here.

"Horror’looks at history and the legacies of British imperialism with mashed up lyrics set against a typically eclectic sound that amalgamates everything from dub, country, noise, rock and roll, electronica, punk, music hall, polka and you can even take your partner for a nice waltz on ‘Sad And Sad And Sad’.

"The roots of their global sound reflect their nomadic journey through time and space from Leeds to California in the West and Siberia in the East and is woven into the fabric and intricacies of their song creation."

Tickets are available on Skiddle and on the door at the Hare and Hounds tonight, priced £22.
