Parts of the city centre were left gridlocked on Saturday as around 8,000 fans flocked to the Bullring shopping centre to see YouTuber James Charles.

The beauty expert was greeted by four floors of screaming supporters, who blocked aisles and escalators, during his visit to the shopping centre but drivers were stuck in long queues around the city centre.

Drivers trying to leave car parks found they were stuck and some reportedly abandoned their vehicles overnight.

Suffolk Street Queensway, Navigation Street and Hill Street were all heavily congested.

Celebrity vlogger Charles tweeted a video showing the huge crowds at the shopping centre. He said it was the biggest meet-and-greet session he had ever done.

He said: "There were 8,000 sisters (fans) at the mall. We keep breaking records every single time. I will literally never forget today."
