Canalside Farm cancels Children in Need event
A ramble on a farm for charity has been cancelled due to coronavirus but farm owners are hoping people will still take part in another way.
Owners of Canalside Farm, near Stafford have had to cancel their main Children in Need event this year, in order to keep everyone safe. The Countryfile Ramble, which was originally going to take place on the October 4, has now been cancelled, but the owners are still encouraging everyone take part, just in a slightly different way.
Co-owner of the farm Anna Barton said: "We would still love everyone to come to the farm and join in, but instead of all doing it together on one day, we are asking people to come across the whole month of October. This way people can complete the walk in their own individual small groups, and still raise money for charity."
The family-run farm, who have been growing their own produce for over 35 years, completed their first ever ramble in 2018, and featured on the BBC Countryfile programme last year. This year they want to make sure that the charity doesn’t suffer and that they still raise as much money as possible.
Anna added: "There will be walk cards that people can collect from the Farm Shop and Café throughout October, giving clear instructions on how to complete the walk. Then donation buckets will be located around the farm so that people can then donate or place the sponsorship money they have collected. Hopefully then we can still raise lots of money for Children in Need, and give them the final total in November."
People can chose from six different walks that start and end at the farm, ranging in distance from a quick one mile stroll to a more ambitious six mile walk.
