For the past 12 months, the zoo has been asking visitors who add 10 per cent voluntary gift aid donation to their zoo admission to decide which charity gets the most money.

Guests chose between three obscure creatures, the save the Tasmanian Devil programme, Pangolin specialist group and Helmeted Hornbill working group.

They have pledged to donate £12,000 to the worthwhile projects, with the Tasmanian Devil programme receiving £10,000 and the other two getting £1,000 each.

Tasmanian devils are threatened with extinction from devil facial tumour disease and funds will help the Save the Tasmanian Devil Program to monitor current Tasmanian devil populations and preserve two healthy groups on isolated islands, support genetic research and promote captive breeding.

The Dudley attraction's next fundraising vote will be announced soon.
