Walsall Leather Museum is set to hold new school sessions in a bid to educate youngsters about the Romans and the material.

The Littleton Street West venue will trial the scheme with a school before potentially widening it.

Assistant curator David Mills said: "We were thinking of doing one connected to the Roman topic and we've been given quite a lot of little rectangular pieces.

"We thought, perhaps,we could lock it together into something based on gladiator armour – Lamellar armour which is locked together and made of leather.

"We will find a school to trial it with and if they like it, and we can do it, we will offer it amongst the other things we offer to schools."

The museum is open every day except from Sunday and Monday, from 10am to 5pm.

Mr Mills added: "The museum is a great family venue and through the years we've done a number of events.

"It's a great place for children, but we try to bring in schools as well.

"It's all curriculum-based and the wonderful thing about the museum is that it's all interactive.

"Children can all have a go."
