Stourbridge Glass Museum wins award at prestigious ceremony - beating big name rivals

Staff and volunteers at Stourbridge Glass Museum are celebrating after beating rivals to capture a top award at the Museums & Heritage Awards.

The attraction which was opened by the King's cousin the Duke of Gloucester just three years ago impressed judges to bring home the sustainable project of the year award for its eco-friendly upcycled glass exhibition.

The panel gave the thumbs up to the venue  in High Street, Wordsley, has a good example of a capital project which has embedded sustainable technology used throughout world's first carbon neutral glass studio.

It overcame the odds to beat four other shortlisted nominees including London's Natural History Museum and Perth Museum.

Dubbed the ‘Oscars of the museums world’, the prestigious ceremony was held at Hilton Hotel, in Park Lane, London, Thursday(15) and saw the museum share the accolade with Railworld Wildlife Haven based in Peterborough.

The awards night was hosted by National Geographic Explorer and stand-up comic Ella Al-Shamahi.
