Deontay Wilder, who has held the WBC championship since 2015, arrived at Noel's bar and restaurant on Waterfront Walk in the city centre on Monday evening in a white Rolls Royce

The undefeated American fighter enjoyed a fish platter to start and a t-bone steak with pasta and vegetables for his main, before passing on a dessert.

Owner of Noel's, Jimmy Devollaj, said: "A friend of mine is a friend of his and he asked if I would mind if Deontay came to have dinner here.

"He was meant to come at the weekend and it didn't happen, so we weren't sure if he was coming but he came on Monday.

"For me, it was another client and he enjoyed himself, he was a brilliant guy, making jokes with the staff and taking pictures.

"Deontay was a gentleman, so down to earth, he was very thankful for everything, I was surprised, a very nice man.

"I've met a lot of famous people and I've not seen that before."

The 33-year-old is known for his one-punch knockout power and announced himself to the UK fans on December 1 2018 with an entertaining draw with undefeated Mancunian Tyson Fury.

There's now a highly anticipated rematch between the pair scheduled for February 22 2020, while a bout between former champion Anthony Joshua has also been discussed.

Jimmy added: "I've met a lot of boxers before, like Ricky Hatton and Anthony Joshua.

"If he ever fights Joshua it will be a great fight and I can't pick a winner, same with the Fury rematch, they'll be great fights."
