Dowden, aged 26, from Dudley, and the 56-year-old comedian were voted off by the judges on Sunday evening after finding themselves in the dance-off with Sunday Brunch presenter Simon Rimmer and his partner Karen Clifton.

Conley said: "If I was only 30 years younger... and not fussy! Me and you, I am not kidding!

"I want her to be on this show forever and ever because I want everyone out there to know how special this lady is. She is a star and I love her to bits."

While Dowden said of her experience on the show: "I have had the most amazing time, I've got not just Brian but his entire family as friends for life and thank you from the bottom of my heart."

The couple found themselves languishing at the bottom of the leaderboard on Saturday night after their jive performance earned them a meagre 16 points placing them in joint last with three other pairs.

In the absence of judge Bruno Tonioli, due to work commitments, their fate was sealed when Craig Revel Horwood and Darcey Bussell opted to save Rimmer.

Head judge Shirley Ballas concurred with their decision.
