Raising a glass to Walsall club revamp
A long-standing club has been given a new lease of life after benefitting from a £47,000 makeover.
The King Street Progressive Institute in Walsall Wood has been transformed from a run down club in need of a facelift to a sparkling, fresh faced venue thanks to a grant from Corey Environmental.
Management say they are delighted after getting the sites roof and heating fixed, as well as the inside of the venue redecorated and are now ready to welcome punters from across the borough.
The club has been on King Street for 85 years but had no improvements carried out for around 35 years.
Sylvia Walker, club president, said: "It was a lot of hard work bidding for the funding, it took a lot of form filling and persuasion but it was all worth it in the end.
"We are very grateful for the grant because to be fair the club badly needed work done.
"The roof was constantly leaking and we needed so much done but as funds became tighter for the club over the years we just couldn't get rund to doing it."
Now, the club is ready for a new era, with the first big night after the revamp set for September 2.
The night, called the Magic Detroit Show, will feature six Motown acts, plus DJs.
Mrs Walker said: "We can't wait to welcome guests old and new and we think we have put the perfect night together to really launch our new look venue."
