Black Country Volkswagen enthusiast Ben Levy has lovingly transformed his VW 1957 Splitscreen into a pub complete with an optical bar, pub seating – and even a dart board.

Known as ‘The Dub Inn’ the vehicle’s name is a play on the nickname for Volkswagens, known as ‘Vdubs’.

The vintage van has now gone on to receive global attention – being shared millions of times on Facebook via The LAD Bible.

Mr Levy, who jointly owns West Midlands Motorcycle Centre in Brierley Hill, says that the vehicle has now become quite the star.

He explained: “I’ve owned it for about three years now and used to transport some of the bikes around in it.

“But then I thought ‘let’s do something different’ so I decided I wanted to build a pub inside of it.

“It took me a couple of months earlier this year to completely transform it.

“Since then attention on it has just blown up. It has won two prizes at camper van shows too. I was at the one show and someone decided to film it and stick it online and then the next minute it had gone viral.

“But I still use it as and when – it does cause a bit of a stir with friends.”

The vehicle can be hired out for weddings and special events as long as the licensee uses their own licence to trade from it.

Punters can relax with a drink inside the revamped VW Splitscreen

It has a cooler in place and 240-volt power supply so you can pull a pint of Strongbow or Carling.

There are also wine racks, beer holders, disco lights and even a bell to ring for service.

Mr Levy continued: “I don’t really know how much it has cost me to do, but its been a good project to work on. Its been time more than anything.

“It has its limitations with space but it looks great in photo’s and you can fit about four people inside with a couple of drinks.

“The VWs have a very big fan base and have become quite iconic, so its been great to get so much attention.”
