Learn about dinosaurs, ancient Egypt and more at Wolverhampton gallery

Join the gallery for an exciting week of dinosaur adventure featuring fossil facts, drawing, model making and stories all aimed at children aged from seven to 11 years old.

Every day from July 31 to August 4, Dinosaur School students can enjoy a fun and fascinating packed timetable from 10.30am to 3pm. The week kicks off with Dinosaur Drawing where you can learn to make fossil pictures just like a palaeontologist.

On Tuesday it is all about the Eggosaurus and the chance to make a baby dinosaur nest in a neat little box to take home.

It’s Dinosaur Diorama on Wednesday where students can learn how to make their own 3D dinosaur landscapes to take home and play dinosaur games.

T-Rex Thursday is a team-building day when everyone gets together to create a big dinosaur sculpture.

And on Friday it is all about fossils when our young palaeontologists get an exclusive look and learn about the gallery’s extensive geological collection of fossils.

The Dinosaur School costs £15 per child per day or £50 for the week and can be booked by calling 01902 552038.

Holiday fun at the gallery leaves the dinosaurs behind and jumps forward in time with a new summer school where junior Egyptologists can discover more about the pyramids, hieroglyphs and what it was like to grow up in Ancient Egypt.

From August 7 to 9 children aged seven to 11 can see and handle Ancient Egyptian objects, make their own shabtis and amulets as well as learn write secret messages in hieroglyphics. The school, run by Wolverhampton Art Gallery’s education team, is from 10.30am to 3pm and costs £15 per day or £40 for all three and can be booked by calling 01902 552038.

Mums and dads can enjoy a daycation with craft and cake on August 15 and 17.

From 11am to 2pm you can drop the children, aged eight to 12, at an arts and crafts workshop while you enjoy free cake and coffee. The craft sessions are £5 per child and there’s no need to book.

Teddy Bear Tuesday for younger children is on August 22 and runs from 11am to 2pm. Take along your favourite teddy, listen to a bear story and meet some old bears from the gallery’s collection and then have fun with teddy bear arts and crafts.

The session costs £2 per child and you can just drop in.

Farm Animal Thursday is on August 24 from 11am to 2pm when children can be inspired by painted animals and farmyard scenes from the collection and create animals to take home and play with. The session costs £2 per child and you can just drop in.

Meet the Animal Man and lots of marvellous mini beasts including snakes, amphibians and mammals at the gallery tomorrow and August 31 from 11am to 3pm. The sessions cost £5 per child.

And while you are there, take a look at the blockbuster exhibition The Natural History Museum’s World Wildlife Photographer of the Year, which runs from tomorrow to October 1.
