The outdoor cinema company Open Air Film and Chill brought their big screen to Wolverhampton's Northycote Farm for the first outdoor cinema show in the city, with 500 people singing along to every word of the 1978 movie.

Audience members took their chance to get into the spirit of the evening by dressing as one of the Pink Ladies or quiffing their hair into a Danny style do.

Revellers stayed dry as the sun shone while hits such as You're The One That I Want and Greased Lightning were roared back at John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John on Friday evening.

City of Wolverhampton Council marketing development officer Laura Page said: "For the first time Wolverhampton has ever had an event like this, we couldn't have picked a better film, evening or crowd.

"It was great to see people getting into the spirit and dressing up in character, when everybody started singing along with the movie it really made for a fantastic atmosphere."

The showing of Grease was followed up with 1986 drama Top Gun, which once again brought in the crowds.

Laura said: "Friday was the party night and Saturday was a bit more chilled but both evenings were excellent.

"It is a different experience from going to the cinema and I am glad so many people took part.

"The feedback I have seen online has been really great and we will look at everything that has been said over the coming weeks before looking to see if we can bring it back again, maybe at another of the councils sites."

The Open Air Film and Chill company take their giant screen to venues across the country, showing other classic films including Dirty Dancing and Bad Boys.
