Life-sized cakes of pop superstars made in Brownhills
Life-sized cakes of Ed Sheeran, Celine Dion and Jamiroquai have gone up on display outside the 02 Arena after being hand crafted over 500 hours by an artistic baker from Brownhills.
Lara Mason, 29, from Brownhills, and her husband Nicky, 31, put together the incredible pieces of edible art to help mark the London venues 10th birthday, which is being marked with live performances from each.
Laura, who only makes cakes as a hobby and publicises them through Facebook page Tasty Cakes, was approached by bosses at the 02, who gave her a one-off commission to get them done in time for the celebrations.
In total it took: 400 eggs, 25kg butter, 25kg sugar, 25kg flour, 1kg jam, 12kg icing sugar, 6kg butter, 14 litres double cream, 17kg dark chocolate, 15kg white chocolate, 20kg modelling chocolate, 70kg fondant icing, 5 boxes of Rice Crispies and 20 packets of marshmallows to get the job done.
The cakes were put on display outside the 02 Arena ahead of Ed Sheerans performance on Thursday evening.
Laura said: "It has been an absolutely crazy couple of weeks, we have spent every minute of our spare time doing this together.
"To see them complete was a fantastic feeling and to get them down to London and see the reaction of some of Ed's superfans was wonderful.
"It was a tiring day, especially because we had to keep moving them into the shade to make sure they didn't melt.
"The Ed Sheeran one is my favourite, it was difficult to make
Previously, Laura has made incredible cakes of Jack Sparrow, One Direction and even a Jaguar Land Rover.
However, she says that despite her obvious talent, she enjoys the balance of her main job as a customer service advisor for bingo company Tombola and her work with Tasty Cakes, which is all done from home.
Laura, who has recently given birth to twin girls, now 17 weeks old, said: "I actually enjoy mixing the two, it allows me to only take on the jobs I am really passionate about.
"I love making the cakes but if I had to make ones I wasn't really bothered about it might take something away from it."
