The annual free event to commemorate those who have served or are serving in the Armed Forces will take place on June 25 at the prestigious Himley Hall and Park from 11am to 5pm.

The special job of bringing the event to a close has been given to The Land Girls, a singing duo from Wall Heath, who will make their debut performance at Himley Hall and Park.

They will perform their special 1940s themed show in the main arena, encouraging audience members to join in the victory celebrations.

The Mayor of Dudley, Councillor Dave Tyler, said: “Our Armed Forces Day event is one of the largest events in the borough’s calendar and is a great opportunity for people to come together and give thanks to those that have served in the Armed Forces.

“Throughout the day there are many things to entertain and educate people of all ages but we hope The Land Girls performance will bring everyone together as they bring our wonderful event to a close.”

As well as performing morale boosting songs from the era including ‘White Cliffs of Dover’, ‘Wish Me Luck As You Wave Me Goodbye’ and ‘We’ll Meet Again’, the victory show will include original recordings from news and radio broadcasts, spitfire engine recordings and the sound of an original air raid siren.

Lynsey Davies, one half of The Land Girls duo, said: “We’re both very proud of our fathers who fought in the Second World War and to be representing the era in which they fought at Himley Hall and Park.

“We were honoured to be asked to perform at this year’s event and are really excited to bring our victory show to people in the park. We’ll be singing many wartime classics and we’ll be encouraging audience members to join in and wave their Union flags as we bring the event to a close on a massive high.”

The event will also include a presentation of medals and badges to veterans, a youth marching band competition, a display of historic military vehicles, and children’s entertainment including obstacle courses. There will be RAF Cosford Voluntary Band performances and the spectacular Beating of the Retreat.
