Now the police prison cells at the Lock Up in Steelhouse Lane, Birmingham, are opening up for public viewing - but tickets have already sold out.

The building was opened in 1892 and was first occupied by Birmingham City Police.

Up until its operational closure last year, it was one of the oldest custody facilities in the country.

The building is now a Grade II listed block.

It is up for public viewing as part of a West Midlands Police Museum Open Day event, taking place on June 17.

Visitors will get the chance to hear stories of officers and learn which prisoners were resident to the prison.

Some of the country’s most dangerous and notorious criminals were detained at the Victoria-era building's cells, including serial killer Fred West and the original Peaky Blinders.
