WATCH: Alex Ross rides Orlando SeaWorld's new Mako roller coaster

Exhilarating, fierce and lightening fast.

There is a reason Orlando Seaworld's newest rollercoaster shares its name with the fastest shark.

The Mako ride plunges from a nail-biting height of 200 ft while travelling at more than 70mph along its near 5,000 ft of thrilling track.

If ever you were to experience the feared shark's chase for bait in the sea - this is it.

Designed following months' of study on the fish and then built over two years, this ride is the latest and best of all Orlando's rides.

Opening today, it is the tallest, fastest and longest of all the rides in the attraction-filled city.

And this week, prior to opening, I got the chance to go onboard.

The sheer size of the coaster raises the heartbeat as it looms over the walkway up to boarding, but nothing can prepare for what is ahead.

Strapped in, the ride scales up the first height, each click on the journey up sends a shiver to the spine before the peak arrives.

Slowly you tip over the edge. And then whoosh.

Vertically you fall, down and down before the track scoops you up from below and flings you up high again.

Twisting and turning there is no space to breath as you sway left, right, forward and back in your seat.

And just when you think the fun is over the ride scales up high again before speeding toward the ground and back up again.

When navigating the hills you feel a floating sensation inside your seat - much intended by the creators who don't want you jammed in the seat.

Seven nights in Orlando with Virgin Holidays including scheduled Virgin Atlantic flights from London Gatwick to Orlando, room only accommodation at the 4V Doubletree by Hilton Orlando at SeaWorld with car hire included. Price is per person based on two adults travelling and sharing a standard room, including all applicable taxes and fuel surcharges which are subject to change. Price is based on a departure on July 08 2016.

This ride shows no mercy - it takes minutes after it finishes for you to regain your composure.

But yet I want more, I want to go back on board.

Creator Brian Morrow said: "All the stories at Seaworld relate to putting the guests in the point of view they cannot get anywhere else.

"So becoming a Mako shark, entering into the penguins' world or swimming with sea turtles, these are all stories that we continue to tell and this is the next chapter in the evolution of these animal stories.

"We had a shark exhibit here for a very long time and there was a restaurant, a bar and that was the end of the shark's story and there is a much bigger story to tell about sharks so we were able to find a way to get this ride and have the runs we needed to for a big, awesome hyper coaster.

"The rules were simple. Number one, build the best coaster in Orlando. Number two, tell a really awesome shark story. We did both."
