New jobs will be delivered by Smethwick parcel firm
Smethwick parcel company DPD has invested £500,000 in a new depot which is expected to create 45 new jobs.
The new Roebuck Lane depot will increase the company's capacity to handle a significant increase in business to consumer parcel volumes in the Midlands generated by its one-hour timeslot delivery service, Predict.
Sandwell's jobs boss, Councillor Ian Jones today welcomed the jobs boost.
DPD is a member of GeoPost, wholly owned by France's La Poste, the second largest postal group in Europe.
The company employs 6,700 people in the UK, operating more than 3,000 vehicles from over 40 locations and delivering 1.6 million parcels per week.
Dwain McDonald, DPD's chief exuctive officer said: "The new Smethwick depot gives us additional capacity in the Midlands to handle increasing parcel volumes and allows us to relieve pressure in future from other DPD depots."
Councillor Ian Jones, cabinet member for jobs and the economy at Sandwell Council, said: "Any investment can only be good."
