Sales rising for 2 Sisters Food Group
Sales for the West Bromwich-based 2 Sisters Food Group climbed by 9.2 per cent to £616.7 million for the first quarter of its financial year through growth in its poultry and chilled food operations.
The firm is currently in dispute with its staff over pay and a planned 24-hour strike by 1,200 2 Sisters workers due to take place yesterday was called off for talks with management to make progress.
But the Unite union says a one-day strike set for Friday is still scheduled to go-ahead. The dispute centres on pay and proposed seven day-a-week working. The group, owned by Ranjit Singh Boparan also has sites in Smethwick and Wolverhampton.
Mr Boparan said: "We have made a solid start to our new financial year. Despite the tough consumer environment and lapping sales gains made last year, we grew sales during the first quarter."
